Gold Filled is a system of making jewellery that involves bonding 14 or 18k Gold under extreme heat to a base metal (usually silver). Plated jewellery usually only has a thin gold coating painted on, which is why it often tarnishes quickly and wears off. Gold Fill has a 5% level of solid gold and is water resistant, warm gold colour, has no nickel or nasties in, and is long lasting and high quality.
Gold Vermeil is a high quality product with a high proportion of gold. The Industry standard is 2.5 microns, however ours is 3 microns. The manufacturing process is heat & pressure bonding 'melted or fused together' gold with a 925 Sterling Silver base.
It’s an expensive process simply due to the weight of the gold. Great quality gold vermeil will last you years with the appropriate care!
FAQs 💬
It certainly is. Most allergies come from nickel being present in the metal but our pieces don’t contain any. Gold Fill has at least a 5% level of 18k gold, unlike plated which can often be only 1% - so the layer is thicker and lasts much longer with careful handling. Vermeil is our highest quality of gold with a 2.5 micron layer of 14k gold over sterling silver. Zero chance of allergy issues there 🙂
You can sleep, live, laugh, love, shower and pray in our pieces!
Chlorine and salt are corrosive chemicals and so they will limit the life of your jewels with prolonged exposure though. Rinse them in clear water after an ocean dunk and keep them away from retinol and sunscreens - that’s only good for your face 😉 - Careful handling will keep you and your jewels golden!
Plenty to read here! Style Ideas
- Less is more Avoid overloading your look with too many pieces. Choose a focal point, such as a stunning necklace like our Leia or a pair of statement earrings, like the Tahiti Earrings and keep other pieces understated to let your chosen piece shine.
- Match Metals: Consistency in metal tones creates a harmonious look. Mixing gold and silver can work, but it's best done with intention. Check out the Bixby Silver Collection here.
- Consider Necklines: Pay attention to your outfit's neckline. For scoop necks, opt for shorter necklaces like chokers, while V-necks pair well with pendant necklaces. Strapless dresses or tops can be paired with a bold collar necklace.
- Layering with Care: Layering delicate necklaces can create a trendy look. Start with varying lengths and thicknesses to avoid tangling and ensure each piece complements the others.
- Statement Earrings: A simple outfit can be transformed with bold earrings. If your outfit is busy, go for more subtle studs or small hoops.
- Balance Bracelets and Rings: Balance is key when styling bracelets and rings. If you stack multiple bracelets on one wrist, keep the other wrist bare. Balance larger rings with more understated ones.
- Occasion Matters: Consider the event you're attending. Delicate pieces work for daily wear, while special occasions call for more extravagant options.
- Personalise: Don't forget the personal touch. Incorporate sentimental pieces that hold meaning for you.
- Try Before Committing: Experiment with different combinations before heading out to your event!

Gold Filled is a system of making jewellery that involves bonding 14 or 18k Gold under extreme heat to a base metal (usually silver or brass). Plated jewellery usually only has a thin 0.5% gold coating electroplated on, which is why it often tarnishes quickly and wears off. Gold Filled has a 5% level of solid gold and is water resistant, has a warm gold colour, has no nickel or nasties in, and is long lasting and high quality.
Gold Vermeil is classed as Demi-fine jewellery. It contains totally precious metal (925 Sterling Silver with a 2.5 or 3 micron 14 or 18k Gold layer ‘melted’/bonded to the top) It’s expensive because of the weight of gold and silver used and the techniques used to make it.
The colour of gold is determined by two factors:
- The type of metal alloys included
- The percentage of each metal alloy
Natural gold and colour-saturated base alloys are what give yellow gold jewellery its rich shine. The alloys most commonly used, are copper with a red hue, and silver featuring a green hue. An expert mixture of copper, silver and pure gold gives this precious metal its signature warmth.
Gold-filled pieces can still tarnish, but it takes special circumstances for that to happen, like excessive and rough use. Even though it’s an alloy, the thick layer on gold-filled pieces helps prevent tarnishing, because pure gold doesn’t tarnish.
